Parent training and consultation

We believe when parents are involved in their child’s learning progress occurs more quickly.  Research shows that Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is more effective with a team approach and part of ABA is programming for skills that each child learns, to generalize to others and most importantly his/her parents and family.

During parent training and consultation, we will work with parents to identify and discuss concerns, identify goals/skills that are important for their child to achieve, and identify behaviors that need to be changed. We will model interventions by working with the child on the target behaviors while the parents first observe and then perform the interventions themselves.  Parents are provided with ongoing feedback to support implementing interventions with their child. PACT ABA is currently providing in-home and HIPAA compliant telemedicine parent training and consultation.

What is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine is a collection of methods for enhancing health care, public health, and health education delivery and support using telecommunications technologies such as platforms like, for example, Zoom. Research has shown that Telemedicine can be effective in delivering meaningful ABA training to parents of children with Autism.

From the comfort of your own home at a time that works best for you, our telemedicine can assist you to:

  • Increase Communication
  • Build on your child’s current skill level
  • Decrease Problem Behavior
  • Reduce Stress by training to use ABA strategies with your children.

Focused Program ABA Treatment

Does your child require 1:1 individual therapy to develop their skill level?  PACT ABA is able to offer focused ABA treatment options.

Focused ABA treatment refers to individualized programming provided by the therapist directly to the child for a limited number of behavioral targets. This time-bound therapeutic programming allows the therapist to focus on the family's prioritized goals.

Focused ABA treatment is appropriate for children who need treatment only for a limited number of key functional skills or have such acute problem behavior that its treatment should be the priority.  Examples of areas of need typically observed in children include, but are not limited to, early communication training, establishing instruction-following, pre-academic learning, social communication skills, toilet training, sleep hygiene, self-care skills, safety skills, and independent leisure skills.

Focused ABA treatment can help with challenging behaviors. These plans may involve increasing socially appropriate behavior (for example, increasing social initiations) while reducing problem behavior (for example, yelling). Even when the reduction of problem behavior is the primary goal, it is critical to also address increases in appropriate alternative behavior. Individuals who need to acquire skills (for example, communication, tolerating change in environments and activities, self-help, social skills) are also appropriate for Focused ABA.

We offer in-home and telemedicine focused programming. To qualify for telemedicine programming, your child must demonstrate key prerequisite skills for engaging with a therapist through the computer.

Social Skills Group Treatment

Our virtual social skills groups allow us to bring together children and adolescents of similar ability and age to learn through fun and games.  Each group will focus on skills specific to each child’s individual goals including, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, conversation skills, socially accepted behaviors, executive functioning, and problem solving.

We know young people learn best through repeated, hands-on practice, therefore we use the evidenced based, Behavior Skills Training model throughout our groups.

  • Social Skills Groups will meet for 6-8 weeks
  • Group meets once per week for 2 hours
  • Groups will consist of structured lesson plans including homework, interactive discussions, role-play, and games
  • Parents or caregivers may assist to facilitate participation and engagement
  • Students in group are assigned a cohort based upon current strengths and weaknesses in different social skills domains
  • Groups will be led by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
